I painted “Moonlight Hours” shortly before I weaned my oldest. “I’ll Miss This Most” was painted shortly before I weaned my son. The postpartum depression, anxiety, and many things outside of my control made my pregnancy and first year with my son very hard. In the thick of everything I was deliberate with how I would be in the moment. I allowed myself to enjoy and find peace in that first year. Looking back I see gold throughout the darkness.
When I painted “I’ll Miss This Most” it was done in a celebration of what I had overcome. It was a celebration and placeholder of the beauty that was in my relationship with my son, our breastfeeding journey, the cozy safe nights when it was just us.
I hope this painting will remind you that you can do it. That there is light on the other side. That you can overcome. That you can enjoy the bits of gold even in the midst of darkness.
