About The Artist

Emily Kerr lives in Alaska with her husband and three children. Art has always been an important part of her life. She graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Fine Arts: Painting and Drawing. After graduating, she continued to make art and taught at the Kimball Art Center in Park City, Utah for several years.

She plays with the balance of control and chaos allowing the paint to drip and using charcoal and pastels for finer details. Emily has taken inspiration from Käthe Kollwitz’s work for many years. She works on paper and canvas with charcoal, graphite (wet and dry), goache, watercolor, pastels, acrylics and acrylic ink.

Emily has been exploring motherhood through art since she was pregnant with her first child in 2018. Her current work shines a light on the dark depths of postpartum depression and anxiety. She gives voices to the otherwise hidden dark and heartbreaking parts of being a mom. Emily’s paintings explore the coexistence of grief and joy, dark and light, pain and beauty.
