The small paintings I did earlier this week ✨ It can be hard to find long stretches of time to paint, some weeks the kids need so much from me. I did the line drawings for these ones quickly, one after the other without spending much time deciding which photos to reference. I also played around without using a reference photo. Going to prep a drawing board with small pieces of watercolor paper like these to work on this week. ☺️
Another throwback painting because why not πŸ’πŸΌ‍♀️
One of my mini studies I did of L🌜 and I before I was pregnant with G✨. It was actually one of the paintings I did before painting "I Will Keep You Safe" in 2020. πŸ’›

It was actually one of the paintings I did before painting "I Will Keep You Safe" in 2020. πŸ’› I'm not sure why I haven't revisited that painting as much as I've revisited the cosleeping/bedsharing/breastfeeding painting. Maybe I will work with that reference photo again someday
I have always loved painting and drawing and I love love love being a mama. πŸ’› I'm so grateful for my children, they are joy and peace. I really love setting up their bedroom and getting things put away. It's so much work and at the moment the room is a mess, but I love getting their beds made and their clothes put away. I love watching them, learn how to make their own beds and get their toys and books and clothes to put away. When we're working in their room, my daughter makes her own bed and then sets up her stuffed animals right where she wants them on her bed. She loves organizing her shelves and putting everything right where she wants it to be. They each have two bookshelves to have their toys and lamps and pictures and books. I love seeing the stack of books that I get to read with my 4-year-old. It's so fun to watch her imagination as we read different books together. I love having a little bedside table shelf made out of a wooden box for my son next to his toddler bed. He has his own little lamp and a teeny tiny toy mouse that he tucks in when it's time to go night night. I walked in their room in the late afternoon a few days ago and just felt such peace. I love that I get to give them such a safe place to grow up.

A few years ago my friend and I walked between the car repair shop and the mall with our kids. It was so hot out πŸ˜… the kids ran around the mall. My daughter and my friend's son were 2. We had to stop them from throwing the rocks inside that are there for decorations and they had maybe three bites of the lunches. My baby✨ was in a carrier. It was several months after her baby boy went to Heaven. What a year that was πŸ’”β€οΈ‍🩹 The mall had AC so I was nice and cool. And it was so hot out. By the time we made it back to the cars her 2 year old had fallen asleep. As a mama we end up not getting many pictures of us with our kids. The way she was holding him was perfect, precious, tender, strong. So I pulled out my phone and had her stand holding him for a few pictures. I love watching mamas interact with their children, the soft reassuring contact, running fingers through their hair or holding their hand or just making sure they're right there and safe and whole. more tender than how we treat ourselves. I also love the way mothers say their children's names πŸ’› it sounds like music, a breath, the beating of their heart. #motherhood #artistmother #artistmama #mamaartist #figuredrawing
How do they get so big so fast? πŸ₯Ή I love getting to know my children better as they get older and can share more of what they think and feel. I love seeing them get bigger. And I also wish they could curl up tiny in my arms just a few more times.πŸ’› Also peep the construction truck and dirt my son brought up to the table πŸ˜…

I usually work from reference photos, but I'm starting to play with just painting. I like how the light and shadows worked in this one and will revisit it in different sizes and with different hair/skin tones. Excited to get some more line work on this one with charcoal pencils πŸ€— hopefully tomorrow, but we'll see πŸ˜… L🌜 has one more dance recital tomorrow πŸ’› she did so great today 😍
Is #tbt still a thing?

Little painting 1 of 8 ✨ Does it look like it's finished? I think I'm going to use graphite or charcoal pencils with it, but I'm liking the grayscale so probably no color. What do you think? πŸ’›
